It was a tough winter. Several states have cut deer and antelope permits. Hopefully, you are one of the ones that drew.
NWSC will have a hunter education class for members and friends. Kind of a private class, but I bet if you join, we will welcome you (if we have room)
Big Game Draws
Texas applications are due for alligator August 1
Texas has drawn dates the first and fifteenth beginning August first and the last ones are November first. There is a bonus point system, so sometimes I apply just to get the points. I will list the hunts that I am interested in as they come due. Texas is a place where you can shoot about anything from A to Z. Literally starting with alligator tags you can draw and spend very little money to Zebra you can pay to hunt on a private ranch.
Texas lists some of the success percentage on some of the hunts. If you really want an alligator, there are some 100% hunts you could draw. I did not check to see if is in the rules this year, but a few years ago one of the alligator units did not allow rubber boats.
Texas applications for Pronghorn and Javelina are due August 15th
Tags for antelope are available for either private land or public ground. The Javelina sometimes includes exotics and sometimes feral hogs. So, check the different areas.
Texas applications for Whitetail are due September 15th
There are several categories, and many different hunts to choose from. Many of these offer additional opportunities for other species (exotics, hogs, etc.)
Montana applications for bonus points are due September 30th
There was a time when drawing tags was almost automatic. Notice I said WAS A TIME. Tags are not that easy anymore, so take advantage that points offer.
